Building a new home? Build it to last.

Your new home is only as sound as the blocks it’s made of

Rising construction costs and the thousand-and-one materials your new build requires may tempt you to skimp on cheaper blockwork.

But we’ve seen the devastation that comes from cutting corners on building materials. Your new home will crack and heave if your blocks aren’t sound, and pyritic blocks are still being sold to unwitting home builders in Ireland.

Ask your builder/block manufacturer has the product been independently tested for deleterious materials.
If you’re planning a new build, either with contractors or as a self build, it’s crucial that you test your building materials. Your strong walls and housing security depend on it.

Build with confidence in your materials

When you test your materials for the presence of pyrite or other deleterious materials, you’ll feel confident in the future safety of your family and home.

Pyritic building materials are still on the market in Ireland, and even skilled, reliable builders can’t always spot them.

But you can pinpoint compromised building materials and eradicate them from your building site with trustworthy testing from expert, independent labs like

Test your materials with the ethical testing company

We don’t accept sponsorship from block manufacturers and neither do the labs we work with. Instead, we deliver lab-certified test results from independent testing laboratories.

Ensure your home is solidly and safely built by booking a pyrite test for your construction materials. Your test results will be sound and as a result, so will your structure.

Here’s how we work with you:

ONLINE INSPECTION

We’ll start the conversation with an online inspection of photos of your property.

If the photos indicate pyritic building materials, we’ll schedule an onsite assessment and laboratory analysis.

ASSESSMENT

A trained member of our inspection team will analyse the photos provided and determine if the characteristics of pyrite are present and warrants the extraction of masonry samples.

SAMPLING & TESTING

To prove the presence of pyrite in your building materials, we’ll take samples from your property and submit them to one of our independent lab partners

They’ll return a full analysis of your property within a few weeks.

Frequently asked questions

ARE PYRITIC BLOCKS STILL A PROBLEM IN IRELAND?

Unfortunately, the answer to this is yes. Some companies are still sacrificing the future security of your home for a larger profit. Even an experienced and trustworthy contractor might not be able to spot compromised building materials, so it’s crucial to have your blockwork independently tested.

WILL ANY AMOUNT OF PYRITE IN A BLOCK CAUSE IT TO EXPAND?

When we sample your blockwork for the presence of pyrite, your results will classify the pyritic presence in your blocks as high, low, or negligible. Lower ratios of pyrite in blocks will not cause swelling and cracking in your walls or floors, but higher levels will.

WHAT SIGNS OF PYRITE SHOULD I LOOK FOR BLOCKS I’M BUYING?

Until the pyrite in your building blocks becomes saturated with water and starts to expand, there is no visible sign of pyrite in blocks. Saturation only occurs after many years of rainfall, at which point you will already be living in walls made of pyritic building materials.

Make sure you’re building with the best. Schedule a building materials check.
